Term 1: Social Stencil Community of Practice Extension Seminar 3rd April
Our first Community of Practice Virtual Meeting will focus on Social Skills Groups; how to set them up for success, how to make them engaging and how to ensure they are neuroaffirming.
Dr Connie Buckingham has always had a passion for delivering Social Skills Group Programs. Indeed the groups we were running in the late 90’s and early 2000’s were not neuroaffirming. They were designed to teach children how to socialise, listen, play and communicate in neurotypical ways, denying their own style and identify. And so, masking was the way.
With the help of advocates with lived experience, we’ve realised that this old way is not ok. We can still run Social Skills Groups, but they’re different now.
Join Connie on the 3rd as we step through the goals, how to bring together a good-fit group, discuss common challenges/strategies, and activities to support the young people in your groups.
